About Bible Sweets

Hi, I’m Riana Treshaun, the founder of Bible Sweets. Whether you’re new to reading the Bible or you’ve been studying it for years, our goal is to transform the way you interact with and recall God’s Word. We achieve this by providing study methods that are interactive, engaging, and genuinely fun!

The Struggle: Confusion and the Cycle of Failure

Growing up, I honestly hated going to church because I couldn’t grasp what was being said. I also didn't understand the King James Version (KJV) Bible, which I believed was the only translation we were allowed to use.

I carried those feelings into adulthood. For almost 30 years, I was actually terrified to open up another Bible translation. Because the KJV felt incomprehensible, I told myself that I wasn’t smart, didn’t really love God, and could never be a "real Christian." When I mustered up the courage to pick up the Bible, I’d always lay it right back down by the time I got to Leviticus. (Tell me I wasn’t the only one!)

I was also trying to force myself to read the Bible because I felt that’s what a "good Christian" was supposed to do. While I still agree that we all need to read God’s Word, the purpose is not to check off a box or because you feel obligated. We should want to spend time in His Word!

For years, I approached Bible study with a mix of dread, intimidation, and confusion. I was the girl with a massive collection of devotionals, self-help books, highlighters, pens, notebooks, and fancy Bible study printables I purchased off the internet. I watched all of the “My Bible Study Routine" videos and tried to mimic the aesthetic ones.

The cycle was always the same:

  • Get serious about Bible study.
  • Purchase all of the books, highlighters, and supplies.
  • Go really hard for one or two days.
  • Quit because it felt forced, I was confused, or I just couldn’t get into it.

This pattern went on for many years, and each time, I felt like a failure.

The Turning Point: Craving a Real Relationship

I thought being a Christian meant believing in Jesus, reading the Bible every day, going to church, and spreading the love of Christ. While all of those things are part of it, I wasn’t aware that I could have a personal, one-on-one relationship with God. I began to crave this intimate relationship with Him at the start of my thirties, but I was doubtful that God would ever pay me any real attention. I figured that type of relationship was reserved only for pastors and preachers.

Despite my doubts, I asked God, "Please don’t be mad at me for reading a Bible translation other than the KJV." I knew He heard me and saw my sincere desire to know Him, so I took a deep breath and trusted He would direct me to the right translation. What did I have to lose?

I sought out a chronological Bible reading plan because I wanted to feel like I was walking through the stories with the characters in real time. I initially started reading (and enjoying) one translation but felt a strong push to switch to another, so I chose the NLT (New Living Translation). Can you believe I listened to and read the entire Bible in six months?! I had a wonderful time spotting the Scriptures and stories I had grown up hearing about. My initial goal was just to read the entire Bible and enjoy it; then the next year, I would actually begin to study and retain that information.

(For anyone who needs to hear this: your salvation is not tied to a translation! While it’s still not my number one, the KJV and I are cool now, and I reference it often!)

The Birth of Bible Sweets

I was standing in my living room when the Lord showed me that I could study His Word the same way I study for everything else. I had just finished creating a 73-question quiz for a family member who asked me to help them study for an exam. They didn’t ask me to create a quiz, but that’s what I always did, so naturally, that’s what I did for them. As a visual learner, I learn best by "gamifying" things or making them highly interactive and fun. I do this by taking the information I need or want to learn and turning it into a game, which helps keep me interested. Things look and feel simple, but it’s really disguised learning!

Our Mission at Bible Sweets

The point of Bible study is to study the Bible, and Bible Sweets was created to help you do just that! Not only will we help you study God’s Word, but also retain and recall it so you can experience all that He has for you!

Maybe you completely disregard Bible study because you think it involves reading something you don’t understand, then being asked, "How does this apply, or what does this mean to you?" and you have no clue. Those types of Bible study guides are actually very useful, but they might be assuming you already have a general understanding of the text or learn best using those methods. As we know, everyone learns differently, and that’s awesome because that’s just how God made us!

We cannot legitimately pursue God, try to get to know Him, or say we even know Him if we don’t read His Word. My heart goes out to those who desire a relationship with God but are intimidated by the Bible and all the different ways out there to approach it. There’s no special technique; just hop right into His Word. I pray Bible Sweets can help you do that for real this time!

  • The Bible is the Inspired Word of God.

We believe that the Bible is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16) and is the ultimate authority for faith and life. It is without error and is the foundation of all our teachings.

  • One God in Three Persons.

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Each is fully God, yet there is only one God.

  • Salvation Through Jesus Christ.

We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, made possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6).

  • The Hope of Eternity.

We believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ and the promise of eternal life for those who trust in Him (John 3:16, Revelation 21:1-4).

  • The Importance of Discipleship.

We believe in growing as followers of Jesus by studying God’s Word, praying, and living out our faith through love and service (Matthew 28:18-20).
